Joey Niehuis
(a.k.a."FAST
JOEY")
A multi-talented performer and
musician. Along with his drumming and percussion talents, Joey is
an accomplished vocalist and performance artist.
He started out at Carlmont High School in Belmont, Ca. where he was
a member of the Jazz and Symphonic Bands and the Choir. He was selected
to the CMEA and CBDA State Honor Bands, where he won the Sousa Band
Award 2 years in a row. He also performed with the California Youth
Symphony, all before his 18th birthday! During this time he had private
drum instruction with Scott Morris and Mike Curotto.
Joey is a currently a musical director at the First United Methodist
Church in San Jose. He is a former member of the Oakland Jazz Choir
where he was often a featured soloist. He has performed with the vocal
group "Without Measure" led by Julie Ford. Joey has also
performed with a wide range of groups throughout the San Francisco
Bay Area including: The Root Band, The Terry Hiatt Band, Jazz Guitar
Trio, String of Pearls and Cold Sweat to name a few. He's opened shows
for many a legendary act including: John McLaughlin, Steve Morse,
Eric Johnson, John Barry, Buddy Miles and The Edlos. He can be found
Monday evenings at The Berkeley Jazz School and every Friday night
and Sunday morning at the First United Methodist Church in San Jose.
His tv theme show extravaganza, Fast Joey & the T.V. Zone, plays
all around the Bay Area, look for them! He has been married to his
wife Amy for 18 years and has 2 daughters,
Jessica and Rebecca.
